It is most associated with “walking (or relaxing) on a (cool) beach”, though there is other imagery, commonly artistic-related imagery, such as painting and drawing. It is no surprise, then, that this piece is played in the Shumi village’s craftsmens’ workshop. For the best results, I recommend playing this piece at moderate pace with moderate volume, giving the notes a chance to ring and blend with each other. play a harmonic, here is how: place the tip of any finger on your left hand gently on top of any string above whichever fret is mentioned (there are several different harmonic points on a string). In this case, it is the 7th fret on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings. When your finger tips the string, hit the string with any finger on your right hand, and raise your left-hand finger (even though this isn’t strictly compulsory; it will just help the note ring a bit longer and smoother). Since this is a classical guitar piece, I wouldn’t recommend using a plectrum; Use your thumb for the 4th string, your 1st finger for the 3rd string, your middle finger for the 2nd string and your 3rd finger for the 1st string. The little finger is rarely (if ever used) to strike strings in classical guitar. Finally, play this for your friends on a sunny summer’s day, preferably at the beach (however, as I write this, I am experiencing a typical rainy Irish summer in 2008, so I hope it is sunny wherever you are).
